Sculptor Juchum does it again with 'Lovers'
THE COLUMBIAN, Tuesday, June 6, 1972
Sculptor Gerhard Juchum has done it again. Another sculpture of his "Lovers" has mysteriously appeared at Sunset Beach as the artist's contribution to the cultural needs of society. Juchum, 34, erected a sculpture, "Spearfisher" to the Vancouver Parks Board last summer by simply erecting it at Second Beach in Stanley Park. Despite the interest shown by visitors, the board rejected the idea and the sculpture had to be removed. Undiscouraged, Juchum has now produced Lovers which is the first piece of a series of 24. He intends to keep on donating one sculpture every year to the people of the Lower Mainland and hopes to make it a tradition.

"Appreciation in arts should be valued by the general public, not by a handful of people who happen to be in a position to deprive the privilege of others," he declares. [Not so]
