Fisherman finds home

NORTH VANCOUVER — The banned Spear Fisherman statue, which was supposed to be set up in Cates Park here, has turned up in Port Hardy instead.

District Council learned Monday night that their approval of a request from sculptor Gerhard Juchum was all in vain when he accepted another offer to take in his 600-pound cement and polyester statue.

Juchum, who had his statue removed from Stanley Park after setting it up illegally on Third Beach, offered to make another for Cates Park.

Municipal manager G. L. Darychuk said: "A statue of any kind does not appear to be a matter of urgency at the present time.”

Council agreed unanimously, deciding to tell Juchum that if they need a statue, they'll get in touch.
