Sculptor Gerhard Juchum |
Gerhard Juchum believed that understanding evolves from an open sharing of ideas. He believed that we can love those whom we meet on our path, learn from those who walked before us, and leave signposts for those who follow behind. This belief led him to begin a manuscript on art which, he hoped, would explain his feelings about the individual, society, the role of art and in particular, his sculptures.
I met Gerhard Juchum in Vancouver in December 1968 in Barclay Manor, then a residence for newly-arrived immigrants. From that time on we maintained a friendly relationship with many hours spent in animated discussion and exchange of ideas.
At the time of his death his manuscript was unfinished. In accord with Gerhard's wish that his thoughts and art be remembered, I undertook to organize and edit his notes and photographed some of his art work.
This website is dedicated to Gerhard Juchum, the artist, who cared to sculpt. Much of Gerhard's work could not be catalogued or documented because the location and ownership of the sculptures is unknown. Any help in locating this additional art work is greatly appreciated.
